sure... use the forum tools or create/edit a post in the topic and you can set it... of course, the user must have permission to change the status of a topic...

Nope, doesn't work and I'm an admin on the site/forum.
I'll emphasize that I'm talking about changing the topic status while inside that topic.
And for example the forum tools for the original post in that topic offer lots of options but not one for changing the topic status: http://prntscr.com/4xbr7h (and yes, the topic has a status).
Changing the topic status from the forum level (viewing a list of topics) works.
This is because there is no topic tools button for the topic view. You have admin tool buttons for topics in forum view (list), and admin tool buttons for posts in topic view (in the thread).
I'm not sure how easy it would be to add a topic tool button in the header of a topic in topic view. I will give it a go and if possible post the line which you would need to add.
Although Yellow Swordfish or Mr Papa might know the answer straight away! There might be another option - I don't know, I won't be able to look for an hour to so.
OK.
I probably should have realised this earlier, but it's not going to be as straight forward as I first thought.
Basically, the function that opens the forum toolset and the topic toolset are in different files, and each are loaded individually for their template. i.e In topic view, only topic view functions are loaded. As far as I can see you would need to change core files which is not really advised.
Just how important is it that you can do this in the topic rather than forum view? Or was it more of an enquiry?
