Support Forum
All,
Good morning! I installed the File Uploader plug-in and set the preferences so that none of the file types (image, media or other) "auto inserts" into the post (see attached setting screen shot). My goal is to have all of the file types show up in the "Attachments" list only after the post is saved (not in the post itself).
Unfortunately, this works perfectly with the Mac Safari browser only ... see attached screen shot. For every other browser that I tested, the only items that show up are the image and media files ... "other" files do not show up (doc and pdf files, in my tests) ... see attached screen shot.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Mark
Hey Mark,
I can't see any reason why PDF's or other file types would show up in one browser but not another from a SP point of view, I don't believe there is any way to determine what is displayed depending on what browser is being used. Could you start by making sure caches and temporary files are cleared on both browsers and then try again?
Ike & Andy,
Ok, here's the situation.
Actually, even though I uploaded 4 sample files (mov, jpg, doc & pdf), only the mov and jpg file show up in the attachments box of the post. This is the case for the following browsers:
Safari (Mac)
Safari (PC)
Chrome (Mac)
Chrome (PC)
Firefox (Mac)
IE (PC)
Unlike before, the Mac Safari is also not showing the pdf or doc files.
In all cases, I cleared the cache and temp files.
ALSO, none of the attachments are not showing up in the profile of the poster who attached the files (under the attachments tab). The only thing showing up is the "2016" folder ... nothing under it (for all file types).
By the way, the 4 sample files clearly show up when the post is edited and you click on the "Attachments" button ... and then click on the "Remove Attachments" button.
I'll PM both of you with the topic URL, the username (of the poster) and the password after I post this (all sample information ... so no worries).
Thanks,
Mark
P.S. I also deleted the plug-in and reinstalled it ... I also posted a 2nd topic just in case the 1st topic was corrupted.
It probably would have been more helpful to have login details for an admin rather than the user in question, but just after taking a quick look can you check a couple of things for me?
Firstly, can you check to see if the user has the following permission enabled:
Can download other file type attachments
The easiest way to do this is to log in as SP admin, go to the front end, edit the users profile and click the permissions tab. The permission should have a green tick next to it.
I'm not sure if not having this permission enabled would mean you don't see the items in the attachment list, but it could very well be the case. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to test right now locally but will later if I am on before you get the chance.
Also, can you double check the attachment browser in the user profile? You can click the nodes to the left of the folder icon to expand the tree, and being logged in I can expand the file tree to see all the attachments under 2016 > 04 > just fine.
You also have 3 tabs to the left of the file tree:
- Image Uploads
- Media Uploads
- File Uploads
And have checked through these quickly and can see they all have attachments. Is this not working for you?
Ike & Andy,
Before posting an issue, I usually make a great effort to ensure I haven't missed an option that easily solves a problem ... in this case, apparently, I didn't! Yup, sure enough, I didn't have the "Can download other file type attachments" boxed check in the respective permission setting. The issue with the missing file attachments is resolved ... thank you!
On the other issue (attachments not showing up in profile), the problem remains. Just to make sure my expectations are correct for this feature, please see attached screen shots for the three (3) types (Image Uploads, Media Uploads & File Uploads). As you can see, I'm just seeing the "2016" folder ... but no attachments (or subfolders). To be sure, I'm signed in as "Bob Adams" ... the uploader of these files. Also, the problem remains regardless of the browser I'm using.
I'll send my admin credentials to both of you in a few minutes.
Thank you,
Mark

As I said before.. I checked this on your site and it seemed to work just fine, I was able to see all the attachments the user had posted. See screenshots:
Also, good news on the attachments showing up!
Hi Ike,
Ok, you are so right ... clicking on the node (the little triangle!) worked.
But, if I may, I will give some constructive feedback on this feature.
What confused me (time and time again!) was the fact that the "2016" wording acts like a link ... is quite prominent ... and begs to be clicked to reveal what's behind it ... but does nothing! On the other hand, the "node" is not obvious at all (in my humble opinion) ... it just looks like a juncture of two lines. My suggestion is to make the respective folder expand when clicked ... more to the point, put the "node" coding behind the respective folder wording.
Gentlemen, thank you so much for your time and patience on these issues.
Regards,
Mark
