Support Forum
Hi, I realise this is pretty subjective, but I wondered if you could give me a suggestion on media file restrictions.
At the moment, only moderators can upload media files - I'm worried about site performance issues. Regular forum members can however upload images and other files.
If I did open up the media file option, is say 1 MB a good starting point. Too small and it's really not worth it of course.
Incidentally, I've set image/other file max size to 50 kb. Not sure if that's a bit mean?
Any experience you've got on this much appreciated. Thanks
I find 50 kb to be satisfactory for image files, but I know how to adapt them to fit... but most users do not... we have adopted a 100k size here for users to allow for that...
as for other files, it really depends on what you are uploading... 50kb is very small... and simple text files will be the limit... if you want to allow pdf, xls, word and other tyical other files, I would pick a larger size... but it really depends on what you wanted uploaded...
as to media, same applies... what are you uploading? target specific? random topic? 1 MB will be a small audio or video file... not sure it would be of value... dont have a recommendation, but would suggest looking at some sample video and audio and see what file sizes there are... I dont have a site where I allow them so cant really give you a sample value...

Thanks for that. I've decided for now to only allow admin to add 'media files' - the occasional training video clip basically - and everyone else can have image and other files only. Might be a nice thing to allow later on to some members.
Think I'll push the max file size up to 100 kb following your advice - thanks again.
