You can see that we are simply trying to establish the image width...
Good thinking on the debug numbers as well.
is there a chance you could ask you host about the getimagesize() function? This should NOT require the GD library to be compiled into your php but should be in the standard core. I would assume that if it did not exist we would get a fatal error so I doubt it is that. But they may know why we are unable to use it...
And meanwhile I will look into any method to bypass that if there is a problem...

Hi, I did not find a reason explaining that the getimagesize would not work. I have a dedicated server I administer myself, maybe there is some configuration I need to change somewhere, but I did not find anything to date. Nor did I find a lot of people complaining that this information would not work.
The environment part of simple-press toolbox gives this - I don't know if something is useful here:

Most peculiar. And clearly a rare occurrence - you are, as I said, just the second user to have this issue.
I am going to have to ask you to bear with me on this one. I have been giving it quite a lot of thought since you raised the issue to see if I can come up with a differemt solution. One or two ideas but they are going to take me a littler while to write up and test out.
In the meantime, you should be able to avoid the issue by ensuring that all image tags have a width attribute. But I do assure you I am on the case!

its most add as every php install should include getimagesize()... it does not require any other libraries... I am not even sure how php could be compiled without it... you are not running safe mode or anything are you?

Well, it seems included, it's just that it answers 0 if that's possible. I have no other issue with wordpress - I guess I would have some if I was running in safe mode. But I'm no expert in server admin, unfortunately. I'll continue to look...
we continue to research too... 0 is only returned if the image is not a valid image or the file contains multiple images...
sorry, if mentioned before, but what kind of image are we talking about here?

It's a PNG made from a Mac screenshot. But I tried to save it as JPG as well. I'll make some other trials with other types of images.
... for an unknown reason, it just started to work.
The only thing that I did was to add the TinyMCE editor, can that be linked???
Or maybe it is the PHP caching that was preventing me from seeing the changes I did?
Anyway, the image not shown has now disappeared and images are displayed correctly...
