Hi,

after activating this plugin, at the top of the forum page, I'm getting shown the error message: "[function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied" - do I have to change the access rights of some sub-folders? If so, which?

Thanks in advance.

Just be to be sure. Are you using the latest Simple:Press version 5.2.2 and have setup the config options for it?

Yes, we just installed the forum 2 days ago, claimed the membership today and uploaded the latest versions of the plugins.

The forum was working nicely, it's just after activation of a number of plugins, we're getting shown this error message at the top: Warning: fopen(/www/ [...] /wp-content/sp-plugin-scripts-header.js) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /www/ [...] /wp-content/plugins/simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-plugins.php on line 717

So it appears some folders need to have different access rights / permissions, but I would like to know which. :)

take a look at wp-content/sp-resources and the folders under it...
typically they would be 0755.. but also check the uid and gid... they
should match wp-content... on some php configs, they end up differently
after install...

Thank you for the hint. I run into that problem when I first installed Simple:Press. I just set the whole /sp-resources folder to 777 (as well as all sub-folders) and even though it appeared the owner rights were set correctly, I changed them all to the ftp user again.

However, I now realized the problem was that the file sp-plugin-scripts-footer.js is simply missing completely. I failed to realize that the whole time as I got sp-plugin-scripts-HEADER.js installed in that folder and I didn't pay close enough attention to the error message. Where can I get that file from?

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: A google search for "simple press sp-plugin-scripts-footer.js" revealed that a number of sites are dealing with the same problem. Still, I don't see it covered anywhere in the FAQs and for some reason, it seems like that error didn't pop up in the forums often either.

Sometimes people are missing other files in the /wp-content location like sp-plugin-styles-all.css. Where are these files coming from?

P.P.S.: I would recommend changing the name of the theme to something like "fopen error message - sp-plugin-scripts-footer.js missing" so more users can benefit from the solutions posted here. :)

You have two options here. You could turn using the combined CSS and JS files off altogether - forum admin > Options > Global Settings. (Over on the right).

Or - you could try rebuilding the files now you have solved the permission issue - forum admin > Toolbox > Housekeeping > Reset the combined CSS/JS caches.

Thanks for the hint that this is causing more problems than we are aware of. I will investigate further...

Thank you again - great support guys!

Before I read your post, I solved it in a different (much less elegant) way - I created a new WP site, installed Simple Press, uploaded a plugin (by the way, I can't upload the .zips of plugins, I'm always getting shown the "are you sure you want to do that?" message and need to "manually" upload the contents of the .zip files via FTP - I have no idea why my server is acting so weird) and for whatever reason, it successfully created the footer.js. I then took this file and uploaded it to the folder of the site I am actually working on. Like I said, not very elegant, but it worked. :)

Thanks again.
