I see you are using the 'default' theme but what you will need to do is make a small edit to the overlay file you are using. You can do this in the forum admin > Themes > Theme Editor. Select the overlay from the list and load it up.

In the top section you will see the entry for '$mainFontSize' and beneath that one for '$mainFontFamily'. The base font size is probably set to 100% so to enlarge just make it bigger. But small steps. Try something like 105% for example. The font family is set to inherit whatever your blog is using but you can change this here to whatever you prefer.

However...

As always we recommend that you create your own SP theme so that any customisation is not lost during a future update. (http://codex.simple-press.com/.....g-a-theme/)

are you changing a theme with overlays (ie default)?  or a strictly css theme (ie css only)?  if a theme with overlays, you probably want to change the size in the overlay file...  the overlays are in a subdirectory of the styles folder where you found the main theme stylesheet... edit the overlay you are using to find the main font size (the variable name is probably what you see per you original question)...

I am having the same problem.  I don't know how to change the font on my forum for global settings.  Keep in mind, I am highly web-designer illiterate.  Baby steps.

Also, the above tool bal does not appear when posting in my forum.  How does one get this to appear?

I uploaded the font-changer plugin.

This site states that I should have a 'style settings' under options.  I do not have this type of setting:

the wiki is for version 4.x...  For 5.x you want the codex at http://codex.simple-press.com

the font resize is likely not working because of the other post (one per same issue please) you made regarding the editor...  and the js issue I alluded to over there is likely the cause for its not functioning...

with themes in 5.x, you can adjust the overall font size by changing the css in your sp theme...   adjust the font-size in this style:

#spMainContainer {
 ...
}

also, as always, we recommend that you create your own theme rather than edit ours to keep from losing changes on updates...  see:  http://codex.simple-press.com/.....g-a-theme/
