argh... looks like the shortcode attribute is missing from the list...
unless all Hell breaks loose today, we will be releasing SP 5.1 tomorrow... with it an update to the template tags plugin... It wil have this fix in it...
If you dont want to wait until tomorrow, you can get the actual code change here and make it yourself...
sorry for the trouble... the shortcodes are new and not many folks have put them through the ringer yet...

I have gone ahead and added this if statement to the sp-RecentPosts-tag.php and still the avatars are not changing??

well, that was dumb... forgot you dont use camel case in shortcodes... so it would be:
if (isset($atts['avatarsize'])) $args['avatarSize'] = $atts['avatarsize'];

Great this worked although I do not see how this was different.

as I said - camel case... look closely at the first and third names... avatarsize vs avatarSize..
