When an image in a topic or reply is clicked the image re-sizes on the screen properly but with a gray cast covering the whole screen and no way to close the image. Mouse clicks have no effect on closing the image.

I assume your Simple:Press is using a customised SP theme? As we keep saying - WordPress made extensive changes with the jQuery UI components in 3.6 and as a consequence it was unfortunately necessary to make some CSS changes to popup dialog windows. These changes will need to be added to your custom Sp theme CSS file.

See the codex - Installation > changes section for full details. it only takes a few minutes to make the changes.

I am using the Default 1.2.2 theme. I updated it and all is well. Thank you.

Same applies - we had to update the themes we supply. When SP 5.3.0 was released, the Default them was updated and released as version 1.2.3...
