Hi SP team,

just did the upgrade to 5.1 and upgraded also my database.

Now, what if I have a second 4.5.1 forum incl. PMs and want to merge the messages into my new 5.1? Is this possible by just importing the database by mysql to my upgraded db or do i need to use the data importer or what else?

The first question has to be about the users. Are ALL if the user IDs the same in both databases? And are you JUST referring to PMs here?

Yes, the users are all the same

and no, it is not only PMs, but importing them is by far the most important thing I want to achieve.

just to be clear, Andy asked about the user IDS in the database...  not just the users...  their user ids in the wp users table and the sfmembers table need to be the same...

and then check the message_id of the messages in the sfmessages table of both db.. they will need to be unique...

Yes,

the User-IDs are identical and the message-Ids unique, because the converted database is offline now while on the non-converted db messages are still coming in creating new and unique message-IDs.

And how to do it? Can I just replace the whole db or export/import using mysql utilities? Or in other words: has the structure of the sfmessages table changed and needs upgrading or is it untouched from 4.5.1 to 5.1?

No, the database has changed... as have some other interdependencies... have you already been running the pm plugin? you 'might' be able to replace the database and then visit the an admin page and let the pm plugin run its updates... worth a try... but be sure to have a db backup before you begin so you can revert if needed...

Sounds to me like merging the dbs in the former environment (WP3.3.1 + SP4.5.1) and then running a new upgrade would be the safer option - if not the only option.

No hidden gotchas - just finished and everything worked well. Just my friend 'error 8675' popped up again, I skipped over it and voilà - everything runs smoothly.

Another thing I experienced is none of your business : neither BackupBuddy nor WP-Migrate-DB (both latest versions) are migrating links and smileys in SP posts and SP PMs correctly. I'll let them know - because this is quite annoying.

Just to let you know: if you have a site http://domainname1/wordpress/ and you want them to migrate to http://domainname2/ they still convert it to http://domainname2/wordpress - pointing to Nirwana for uploaded files, images and smileys. This does not affect WP posts or comments - just SP and maybe other forums.

good news. glad it worked out well.

we store the smileys as the character shortcut, so they would need to leave them untouched... I find it easier to just export from phpmyadmin... wink
