Issues with the Blog Search Plugin

First off I think "Include Blog In Search" shouldn't be off by default, or let us set it always on in options.

And 2nd it just didn't work for me. Searched a blog subject and it didn't return anything. My blog's search doesn't find forum post keywords either. So right now I have 2 separate searches on my website.

So 3rdly I have a request. Could the Blog Search provide a shortcode to drop into a widget on the blog, so I can have one search for my whole site?

Thanks, and I'm going to assume my Javascript is to blame again. But I've dumped all things using it's own JS apart from the Theme. Really don't want to dump my theme quite yet.

blog search seemed to work fine for me on your site...  I tried six different searches and got results for both forum and blog...  of course, I dont know your site and cannot unequivocally say it got everything, but it seemed right... keep in mind your mysql server settings require a minimum of 4 chars to match...

what couldnt it find?

are you sure you realized there are two tabs/buttons for results?  one for the forum and one for blog?  you have to toggle between them for the results... the results are not interspersed...

I agree on the including blog post... maybe not an option, but should have way through filter or option for admins to default it to set.. we have that for couple other search options... being a new plugin, probably just fell through cracks...  will open a ticket for it...

I was looking through the forum for this.  Yes, this would be ideal.  Right now we have a blog search widget in our sidebar, and then the user has the forum search directly in the forum.  It would be nice if you could have the widget (sidebar) search for everything.  Otherwise it's confusing for the user (I think).

Is this tough to do or would you recommend a developer for hire for this?  I'd be willing to flip for this, I consider it that important.

Thanks!

Adding the shortcode is not currently on our short list though we tend to bubble up the priority on things that get more requests from users...

If you serious about hiring/paying for the modifications to the plugin, then I would suggest that you visit our contact page and shoot us a note about wanting to customize the plugin...

Andy wrote that particular plugin, so I am not sure if its possible to do or not... and if so, how hard it would be... but the contact would get the ball rolling and we would discuss it in order to get back with you...  Andy will probably respond in the morning to this topic if its doable or not (seems like it would be)...

Well I am giving it some thought this morning!

The main thing I believe - assuming everything else checks out - is that we can only realistically display the results of a search within the forum pages and not outside of them. At least not without a lot more work and effort.

It would also mean that we would need to probably default some values so it would default to searching all forums, all words etc.

So - I am thinking it through....!

Thank you for taking the time for consideration.  If you feel it can be done, let me know and I can go through the contact form, etc.
