Membership Subscribe plugin doesn't add feature listed in Codex

Hello - I have been running the Subscription plugin for some time, and just added & activated the Membership Subscribe plugin, with the goal of using the auto-subscribe feature mentioned in the Codex which is set using a radio button:

Activating this plugin provides:

A new sub-section “Auto Subscribe Membership to Forum” entry with a radio button and the text “Auto subscribe selected user group to this forum when adding permission” when the admin has selected “Add Permission” to add a new permission set and a new user group to a selected forum. The admin gets to the desired forum by navigating under the Admin menu to Forum – Forums – Manage Groups and Forums.

Although I find the explanation a little confusing, I expect I should see the option “Auto subscribe selected user group to this forum when adding permission”, however it looks like nothing has changed and this feature does not appear.

I am running SP 5.7.4, all plugins are up-to-date, & running on WP 4.7.4. I checked the SP error log and there are a couple warnings thrown at about the time I installed & activated the Membership Subscribe plugin. I doubt they mean anything but just in case here they are:

those notices are harmless... already taken care of in next version...

so think you are not reading that right (and it could be clearer)...

first, as stated, this works when applying a usergroup and permission set to a forum...

so on forum - forums - manage groups and forums, it shows up when you add a new permission to a forum...  it wont be there for existing permission sets...  try it for a new permission set...

if you want to add it for an existing permission set, you need to remove the existing set, then add it back... then all users in that usergroup will be auto subscribed...

this is covered in the plugin usage and special notes and a couple other places... but as I said, perhaps could be clearer...

I've not been able to make any progress with what seems to be a very simple feature.  I have a test site that is a cloned (duplicator) copy of my production site.

Nowhere do I ever see a radio button or check box with the words “Auto subscribe selected user group to this forum when adding permission” or anything to that effect.

After activating this plugin, nothing seems to change for newly created permissions sets, nor does anything seem to change on old ones.

My setup is as follows:

1. A number of forums that everyone has access to.

2. Several different user groups with the same permissions (generally "Standard"); there are different groups as they have custom rank badges assigned to each group, i.e. "Charter", "Gold" etc

3. A small group of users are in a group called "curators" and have "full access".

4. A small group of moderators in a group called "staff" who have moderator permissions.

As a first step, I would like to add the auto-subscribe to each forum for just the group named "curators".

Could you give me a brief step-by-step on how to test this feature?

Thanks,

Kelly

sounds like usergroup curators already has permission on your forums... so as I said, auto subscribe does not come into effect... it only works when adding new usergroup and permission set to a forum...

so for this example, for any forum, remove the permission set that includes curators...  then on that forum add a new permission set (likely the same that you just removed)... select the usergroup and permissions and you will see the option to auto subscribe them as they are added to the forum...

repeat as needed for other forums/usergoups/permission sets...
