well it means just what it says... you can only create a poll in a post... if you try to put in a sidebar widget, for example, it wont work...
problem there, of course, is that looks like in a post to me...
please verify your wp version, sp version and polls plugin version...

That message is displayed when we dont think we are in the forum...
any chance your forum is displayed twice on the page?? it does not appear that is in the main wp loop...
also maybe check forum - integration - page and permalink and see what you have for the display in loop and display mutiple options... ideally they should be true and false...

WP 3.6, SP 5.3 , Polls 1.3.6
Created a WP page called forum, url = site.com/forum
Select the WP Page to be used to display your forum: Forum
Am I correct here ?
Filter WP list pages TRUE
Load javascript in footer FALSE
Force the strict use of the WP API FALSE
Limit forum display to within WP loop FALSE=forum works fine except for polls, TRUE=forum disappears
Allow multiple loading of forum content FALSE
Bypass wp_head action complete requirement FALSE
well there is the problem... the forum is not being displayed with in the loop... so hence you get the error about must be in forum post...
so try setting the options the way I said... and then turn the strict wp api option on...
what wp theme? and what other plugins?

Did you turn on the strict api as requested?
If so, we need to figure out why.. The forum, like any other wp page, should only be displayed within the loop.

Deactivated all the WP-plugins.
There is only the WP-theme (directorypress) and Simple-Forum plugin.
If I put the forum within the loop (with Force the strict use of the WP API or without) - the forum disappears completely.
If it's not within the loop - it works fine, except for polls not working.
so you have set display multiple true, in loop true and strict wp api true... and as a test, what if you set, display multiple true and display in loop false?
afraid that makes no sense... does this theme use the standard wp loop??? have not heard of it before... for some reason it is displaying the wp page outside the wp loop...
can you try a quick temp switch to the default wp theme and see if anything changes?
