Support Forum
What would be the best method to have sections of the forum with individual moderators? The idea is to give members their own subsections that only they can moderate. We have them now in a group called "Mentors" that has some moderation abilities. But do we have to make groups of one to apply it to the areas we want or is there another way we are overlooking?
not sure what you mean by sections or subsections of the forum...
you can have individual moderators for each forum... they could be unique or same on forum by forum basis... and keep in mind forum means forum or subforums (to whatever depth)...
to do this you would simply have a different moderator usergroup (with moderator flag set true) for each forum...

Thank you,
I'm sorry that wasn't as clear as we'd like. But you may have answered anyways. I'll ask again in case we missed something.
We have a group called Mentors. Within that group we have individual Mentors that we want to be able to control their own Forums (which will be subs of the Mentors group). So Mentor Alex will control the "Alex" forum in the Mentors group. Mentor Bob will control the "Bob" forum in the Mentors group. Etc.
Access will be via subscription, so we want to make sure we get this all dialed in appropriately in order to provide access accordingly. So if Sally subscribes to Alex's services, she'll have access to his forum. Jim might subscribe to both Bob and Alex, so have access to both. Otherwise, all they will see is that there is a Mentors group, with no access to individual Mentor forums.
Does that help? Are we on the right track? Any other advice/insights?
Thanks again,
Joe
yeah, this is all doable...
what you will want to do is create a permission role (set of permissions) for this individual mentor - you could potentially just use the built in moderator role as well... you will then have to create a unique usergroup for each mentor subforum and give the mentor for the subforum membership in that usergroup... then apply the moderator role with the subforum mentor usergroup to that mentor subforum... then the mentor will be able to control and aspect of that forum that you gave them permission to in the moderator role... you can then have a subscriber role/usergroup combination for each of these mentor subforums...
if you are not the mentor subforum moderator and a member of the subscriber usergroup, you wont even know it exists...

Okay, working on it, but got myself confused.
Created group under each Mentor name and assigned that group to the associated Mentor forum. So I think that part is set. We've mapped each of these groups to an associated WP role.
Created a set of permissions for each Mentor (identical to each other, except named for each Mentor).
I'm stumped on how to assign these groups and permissions to the Mentor for his own forum. Brain block!
Progress though. 🙂 I could use a nudge.
Thanks,
Joe
Oh, maybe...
Do I need to set a user group AND permission set for each, the Mentor and his subscribers?
So I have:
- Mentor Alex - Set up a permission set for him individually and create a User Group of one person with that permission set?
- Alex's subscribers - Set up a permission set for this group and create a User Group for them to be assigned to so they have access?
Also, it's possible for a Mentor to be a subscriber to another Mentor's forum, so we want to make sure to have that ability as well.
I realize that you may have said this above, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the vernacular and how it all works together.
Thanks
Joe
yes, will need a user group and permission set for each mentor forum... since its different users, need to be able to uniquely control per forum... you may be able to use the same permission set (if common), but the usergroup will dictate which users get the permissions...
you will want a separate usergroup for subscribers for each forum... again, they may use a common permission set...
then remember, you have to apply each usergroup/permission set (role) to the forum you want to give the access/control to... this is done on forum - forums - manage groups and forums... just use the forum permissions button for the appropriate forum, then add the combination.. and make sure only the desire combinations are applied to the forum...
