Problems with private messaging

See screenshots below:

1) Is there any way to send a PM other than to go to your own Inbox and then hit Compose?  I expected a PM button when I looked at the Members list, but find nothing.

2) The auto-complete for username is not working in the Compose screen.  I have tried typing the beginning of multiple different users and nothing ever auto-completes.  I sent a PM to all users (still in testing, so not many) and did not receive the PM to my own non-admin user account.

3) Only Admin profile seems to offer the PM option at all - the non-Admin Profile Options does not give the option to opt-in or opt-out.

I'm assuming I must have a settings problem somewhere, but I've looked through all the settings several times and I'm not finding it.

Help?

Valerie

Hey Valerie,

Have you checked the permissions? You have a permission for "Can use the private messaging system" in the 'General' category. If it is not checked for a usergroup, I'm pretty sure that usergroup would not see the option to opt in our out in profile view, and this could also account for auto complete not working as technically these members wouldn't be able to receive PM's, although I can't confirm that without doing some local tests.

Also, there is a PM button in the end column in the members list, in fact - if you have a look at our members list here, and select a more relevant group like 'Gold Members', you should see it used there. You might also notice that it won't appear next to members in 'Legacy Members' that are inactive (see last visited date) and thus can't receive PM's.

Definitely the first thing to check, as far as I can see it could be the answer to all three questions!

Thank you!  That definitely was the problem.  I had a feeling it was a settings problem but I just couldn't find it.

Thanks for your help!

Valerie
