Oh good grief, my answer didn't seem to appear...

Ok, here we go again... (I think my first line was thanks for the offer of help!)

I'm not too bothered in a sense as long as I can get the buttons in there - from the codex looks like it offers a link to the entire topic, which is fine, but if the buttons are at the bottom (or top) of each reply that would presumably be best i.e. most convenient.

My question about the existing buttons is significant since removing these from the site's theme would not be possible, and they will as far as I can tell carry into the forum.

Actually, please have a look (and excuse the mess!)

Tweet This Post just gives a link to the entire forum... but the 'Tweet' link, and the Facebook one both bring up links to the complete topic, which is *kind of* what's required.

Oh, the regular forum posts look like this with a couple of the buttons in place

So, it may be that if I can tidy up what's there already I might not need to use the S:P plugins and lose the ones from the main site. That all said, I'm sure someone else must have encountered this before so I'd imagine they have also figured out any problems doing it that way.

I also need to sort out FB login, which may come in a separate question, though I'm guessing that might just carry through from a main site plugin/login?

Thanks again

since I dont know how those buttons are added, I cant really offer much on how to remove... all the decent sharing plugins I have used (such as Social, Share This, etc) have offered an auto insertion or manual (with template tag)...  the auto ones still had a way on any page/post to disable them (check on editing the page/post)... if yours does not, I would simply switch to a different/better plugin...

the problem with using the wp plugin on the forum is that it likely wont pick up the proper url and certainly not the content..  If its using the canonical url and not the wp page permalink, it might get the url right, but the excerpt of comment on the wp page is empty so you wont get an excerpt/content...  but try it out and see if you are happy...

but I think, if understanding you, what you want is quite simple with ours (of course doesnt help the current ones displaying)...  you said you just wanted the topic... so add

sp_ShareThisTopicIndexTag();

 to your spTopicView.php template file of the sp theme you are using where you want it to show up...

but check on the removal as I said...

Thanks - I'll need to sit down and do some guddling around in the template files etc, see which ones work, maybe give them a runout with some live posts...  but I'll make a note of the simple tag info above and see how that works out.= alongside everything else. Thanks!
