Support Forum
Hi,
I have installed the latest SimplePress and used the Importer Plugin to
import my SimpleMachines SMF 2.0.15 forum.
The Import did work out , but I don´t get any attachments showing up in the posting...
the /attachment/ folder with all the JPEG Pictures ( encoded to names without file endings)
is in the root folder of the domain..so it should find it...
Is the current Importer plugin at all capable to also import the Attachments ?
Where will they be stored ?
Inside the Media Library there are no pictures...hmm... so is there any importer
or trick available, how I can get the Attachments also converted to SimplePress ?
Many thanks.
Regards, Stefan.
No our importer will not bring over attachments... sorry, just too many oddities for us to bring over...
You can use the gconverter (http://gconverters.com/) service which does a more in depth conversion... please note, we are not affiliated in any way with that service but some folks have reported good results...
Visit Cruise Talk Central and Mr Papa's World
Many thanks.
Okay, I will try to look then into it...
Can you importer get attachments from the other supported Forums somehow,
so that I for instance could first convert SMF to phpBB or BBPress, and then from there into
SimplePress including attachments ?
No we do bring over attachments. The screen you used to perform the import did list what is bought across. As Mr Papa said - too many unknowns and even possible server security does not make it easy or worthwhile.
However - if the server address to the attachments embedded in forum posts has not changed then they should really be found and loaded.

Hmm, did you mean to write "don´t" bring over attachments ?
The import realtime listing did not say attachments, only posts and categories, etc...
but it did not say attachments...
But I still have the /attachments/ folder from SMF in the same root directory
where also for instance wp-settings.php is located...
or must the /attachments/ folder from SMF be moved somewhere else later on ?
Maybe to /wp-content/ ?
I also analyzed the postings, but there was no link or something to see, which points to an attachment...
Regards, Stefan,
Yep - sorry - I did mean we do NOT.
So the question is how does SMF include an image file in a forum post? Usually I would have expected that to be a url to the file within an image tag - but if this is not the case then I don't really see any way that we could make that work.
