Subscription plug in: Am I overlooking settings?

Hi,

I have downloaded, installed and activated the subscriptions plug in.

I have set the permission sets 'standard access', 'full access' and 'moderator access' to 'Can subscribe to forums (if enabled) and topics'. Updated permissions.

When I log in, I do see hearts next to forums and posts. (I am the administrator)

I have clicked these hearts so now these hearts have little x'es, I guess to enable me to unsubscribe, leading me to infer that I am indeed subscribed.

However, in the top button bar, there is a button with a heart saying: subscribed:0

And I do not get any emails from the subscription system...

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. The count beside the button shows you how many new and unread posts there are in topics you have subscribed to. As to emails - are any of your website generated emails working? Don't forget that WordPress sends out emails not Simple:Press.

also, please note you will not get any subscription emails for topics/forums you are subscribed to if you make the post...  you already know about the post you just made, so no email is sent...

That's a great feature (not getting an email when you posted the post yourself)!

What I did was:

- Signed in as another user and posted on a topic that I had subscribed to as admin

- Logged out and logged in as admin

- Still my Subscription count was 0....

- Checked the post, yes it's there

- I wanted to check if I was indeed subscribed to this topic, but - and this is strange - I got: 'You are not currently subscribed to any topics'.

- Looked at the hearts next to the posts and they all have x-es, signifying - I assume - that I am subscribed.

Does our e-mail work? I guess it does. Our website is sending out e-mails daily, mostly from Gravity forms.

I'm lost on this....

The only statement here that I don't really quite understand is this...

Looked at the hearts next to the posts and they all have x-es...

'Next to the posts'? What are you looking at?

Would you like to set me up with an account as a normal member? I can log on, subscribe to a topic or two and test it out for you properly as a user. If so then create me as a member and send me the credentials in a PM so I can try it.

Hi,

Yes, that was a bit cryptic.

Here is a screen shot:

What I meant was: this symbol seems to mean 'unsubscribe' which would imply that I am indeed subscribed.

OK - I have subscribed myself to the two topics that are currently active.

Clicking the 'Subscribed' button along the top, while showing zero of course, does inform me I am subscribed to the two topics as does the subscriptions panel in my user profile form.

So - hopefully there will be a new post or two and I will let you know what happens. Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to post to this thread when either of those topics does get a new post...

Screen-Shot-2014-04-01-at-09.00.07.pngImage EnlargerWell just for the record when I opened up your forum I saw this. Note that it only states there was one new post and this is confirmed by the topics only one of which has had a new post made to it. The second topic has not had a new post since 25th March.

But I did not get email notifications. This is not uncommon as many people have issues with WordPress not sending out their emails.

The first thing to check is that if you are using the option settings at the forum admin > options > email then they are are set up correctly. Optionally, of course, you could turn them off.

If all else fails we usually recommend the HGK SMTP plugin which seems to correct the issue for most sites with this problem - including our own by the way.

Sorry, one of the forums was not visible for you, so the 1 post is correct.

I have WP mail SMTP activated http://www.callum-macdonald.co.....mail-smtp/

Should I replace this with HGK SMTP?

Are these the settings you were referring to?
