We would like to have a way to have admins subscribe/unsubscribe users to specific forums through the dashboard.  Currently we're manually doing this via the backend database, but would prefer to be able to do this through the interface.

not sure what you want... you can always go to the profile of any user and make these changes... and you can remove in the admin (by forum, topic or user), but not add...

what would the UI look like? since it would have to have access to every topic, seems like it would be kind of clunky... and what would the use case be? do your users really want you subscribing for them? just trying to understand...

When you say I can go to the profile of any user, are you saying there's a way to log in administratively as that user to make the changes?  I saw a way to look at their profile through the admin panel, but not to add the subscriptions.

As far as why we want this functionality, we have a private forum for our entire user base, and we use parts of that forum as the main means of communication with all members.  By initially subscribing all new users to certain subforums, we ensure that they are getting important notices from us.  Of course, they have the ability to go into their profile and remove their subscription, but we strongly encourage them to stay subscribed so they receive our notices.

As far as the UI, since there's already a screen in the admin panel where you can delete forum subscriptions, it would seem a logical place to simply add a "manage" option to the already-available delete option.

On the profile question if you - as an admin - open a users SP profile (by default via a popup when their avatar is clicked) then at the top, beside their display name - is an edit link enabling you to edit their profile details as if you were them.
