Support Forum
Hi there,
first up: The site moved a couple times from one provider to the other. These features did work at some point, but after the latest (and hopefully last) move, they aren't working anymore.
The site in question is http://www.heldenwelt.de/forum
When a user tries to add a topic to his watchlist / subscribe to it, he'll receive the message: "The selected forum doesn't exist" (my translation, the English original might be slightly off).
I updated the permalinks structure (of both the forums as well as the normal WordPress) a couple of times. It did work with the "default WP permalinks", but whenever I switch back to "pretty permalinks", I receive the error message again.
I checked user permissions and this is not the issue.
Any help would be much appreciated.
so what do you mean by move? hosts or domains or other?
nothing obvious on your site - error wise... as a guest, I cannot of course watch or subscribe to a topic, so cannot really test out... but its possible that something is happening on your site with query args on urls... and they are getting stripped...
does your host by chance run mod_security?

We changed the provider, that's what I meant with "moved".
Feel free to register on the board and test it out yourself.According to phpinfo, the module mod_security2 is getting loaded.
can you try disabling mod_security? its really an annoying boat anchor on a site with more false positives than good...
Here are couple of examples of what you can do:

some people and hosts still feel better having it running though... if that is the case, or you cannot disable it, you will need to talk with your host about whitelisting simple press...

My text editor butchers the format / encoding of the .htaccess. If someone has a good recommendation for an editor on Mac OSX, I'd appreciate it (currently using TextWrangler and no matter what encoding I'm using when I'm saving the file, I'm either not accomplishing the things I'd like to or I'm causing my server to throw an error message at me) - didn't have these troubles when I was still working with Windows.
I spoke to my provider and hope they'll be able to turn it off for the domain.sorry, dont use Macs... Andy is our mac guy here, but on vacation until next week, so afraid I dont have any recommendations for you...
please let us know how you make out...

Oh, well, that was a lot faster than I expected. The provider told me that they only use mod_security to block hacking attacks. I also told them my IP and they told me they had no entries in their log files for this IP address, so it seems rather unlikely (in their opinion) that the module somehow "blocked" the attempt to subscribe to a topic.
By the way, since I read this in an older threat that also asked about this issue:
I'm getting forwarded to "http://www.heldenwelt.de/forum/1/" -> even if I enter this URL directly in the browser, it doesn't work. Does this somehow help as it really appears to me like a permalinks issue.
sorry, what do you mean by forwarded to forum/1? after subscribing?
that would be as if you had a forum named 1... more indication that something is dorking with the query args on the url...
can you create me a temp account so I can try and watch the headers and responses? just pm the details to me (sorry, we dont register as a matter of policy to keep us from having accounts everywhere)...
are you running any redirection plugins? they often get confused by the forum dynamic page content generation...

this is corrected... turns out it was a plugin called Permalink Editor that was erroneously redirecting some forum urls...
