Released today was version 1.1.7 of the subscriptions plugin with some new cool features.
You can now easily change the text shown next to the check box when someone creating or replying to a post to state something other than the default.
For instance the default is "Subscribe to this topic" you can now change that to say "Email me when someone comments on this topic" or anything else you may want it to say.
Another option that was added was whether to show the post content in the email or even truncate the content to give someone a teaser about the post.
Both of these new options are great ways that allow you to configure the email sent to users on a subscribed topic to promote visits to your site or enhance the message sent to a topic subscriber.
There are several different examples on how to do this in the codex page for subscriptions. http://codex.simple-press.com/.....criptions/
If interested in changing the displayed text you can use those examples and add them into your theme's spFunctions.php file.
You should of course have a custom theme when you start making those changes so they don't get over written with any new updates. If you don't have one yet here is the way to create one. http://codex.simple-press.com/.....g-a-theme/
