Syntax Highlighter issue

Hi, I have a problem with Syntax Highlighter.

It works fine in forum, but when I enable the option "Use syntax highlighting in blog posts", the page where I submit custom posts shows no content at all. Just header and footer. Console says:

ReferenceError: Syntax is not defined

Uncaught Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: #

I tried to add .js to my template file, but then something else was missing.. I'm not sure that adding all js and jquery like on the forum is solution to make this work.

Is there something I'm missing in Integration panel? Any help would be appreciated!

No other syntax highlighting plugins are being used.

No, there should be no other customization needed...  there have been no other reports of issues, but we will have to run some tests and see if something has gone awry...

though, the error you mention, seems to indicate a js conflict with something else on the site...

do you have a link to an example post where it should be in use so we can look for obvious conflicts?

Well, unfortunately I'm still trying to solve this on localhost, so I have no idea how to give you access..

I have a screenshot that might help you see the issue more clearer..

I have disabled every single plugin, but nothing changed. I tried a fresh installation with my theme installed and simple press, still no change.

As you can see from the screen shot, only the body is not showing. In fact, I can see the element boxes while I scroll on them in console, it's just like the whole body has z-index -1000000.. Don't know how else to describe it.

Error on index (1186) - This is where highlighter script is loaded

This may be a bad oversight on our part with the adoption by WordPress opf TinyMCE V4 in the WP4.0 release. It might mean we can't offer this option or at least not offer it the way it is structured currently.

But I am curious. The toolbar button for the SP Syntax tool does not even show up when I go to wrote a blog post. Are you saying that you DO get the toolbar button made available?

No, as far as I can tell, toolbar button doesn't show up, I can see all other buttons in console but not the syntax highlighter.

Well, I can give up trying to make it work in that case. Anyways, I'm glad if I have pointed this out, and hopefully you'll be able to make it work in future releases. :)

Just a question, are you familiar with any other syntax highlighter plugin that might work in tinyMCE on the frontend submission?

Yes thanks indeed. I have opened a bug report but I am worried that it might just end up having to remove that option.

Your question is a good one. Gosh - I have seen  them in the past but currently I have nothing I can recommend. However - a look through the WP plugin repository should throw something up if it is out there. I know we do have users who use different highlighters on the blog post side but whether they have upgraded to WP4 or not I am unable to tell you.

No problem, I will take a look at plugin repository and try to find something. Syntax Highlihter from SimplePress would most probably work normally if all of the themes were built according to WP codex. Wordpress is becoming more and more complex with each update, and by looking at all the possibilities it has today, it is hard to tell that in essence it's just a blogging platform.

Kind regards and best of luck!

I think it is good that WordPress has become more than just a blogging platform. If it did not then its lifespan would be very limited. But I agree with you that in some areas it has become unnecessarily over complex.
