I am going to share all of this over at the WL forum.
I deleted TinyMCE & WL Tags again, and reinstalled just TinyMCE and it worked. I then copied all the settings in TinyMCE, and installed the wltags, and once again it quit working. When I tried to paste in the settings manually, with and without the ,wltags it won't save it. So wltags is definitely messing about in your plugin.
So to get it working a_creative_life, you need to uninstall both TinyMCE and wltags, delete them both, and then only install TinyMCE, and I'm betting it will work. You can't just deactivate wltags, as it is somehow changing that plugin.
Thanks Shari... odd that you would have to uninstall tinymce... cant think of why (we dont share data or files), but good info...
I think the tinymce issue is new for wltags... and I still dont think they updated for the time we did work with the author... but my guess on tinymce is that when they are adding buttons and shortcodes, they make a bad assumption that the wp editor only shows up in the admin... we ran across one (very responsive theme author) was hooking into the init hook for adding his stuff... it was as simple as changing to the proper admin_init hook if that is the only tinymce editor you want to affect... or maybe wltags has some hooks that can be used to keep it from trying to affect every instance of the wp editor...

I'm not sure what exactly is happening. I found it odd that I was unable to make a change to TinyMCE's setting after the install, so something odd is happening there.
I know it's buggie, and have decided for now just to turn it off. I did confirm that uninstalling TinyMCE and then reinstalling fixes the problem. As I did that on a site I had already uninstalled wltags on, and bam, TinyMCE is back in action. As a non-programmer, I have no idea how to figure out what's happening, but at least we have the tiny back. I like the wltags, but the tiny is quite a bit more important
Thanks Mr Papa for all ya do!
glad to help... yes, we did previously experience wltags causing problems in the admin... that is what we worked with the wltags author on to fix... and gave him code fixes for how he was doing things... but to our knowledge, he never implemented the fixes... could be wrong, but as you see, still seems to have negative impact on things...

Thanks, Shari, for sharing all of your troubleshooting steps! I had the same results: deleting both WL Tags and TinyMCE, then reinstalling TinyMCE finally got it to work again.... but reinstalling WL Tags broke TinyMCE...
SO frustrating, because tagging has become a huge part of my community's culture. I sure wish that plugin author would fix the code!
Thanks for your help, Mr Papa.
sorry, what does wishlist tags do that normal tagging in wp doesnt do?
we can try to contact the author once again and see what's up, but not hopeful there... might get more traction with wishlist themselves (they actually use sp for their forums on wishlist insider - or at least used to)...
thanks for the update a_creative_life...

Hi Mr. Papa, it's not like post tagging, it's like tagging on facebook or twitter. You type @Mr Papa, and it automatically brings up a link that can then trigger and email or just notify someone on login that someone has tagged them. It does help build community as it can keep people engaged on your forum, more important especially when building community. Although it's nice at anytime too. I've had issues with the plugin before so I am hoping that they get it fixed. I did pretty intensive testing with it today, and it is specifically an issue with your latest update, so again hopefully they can get a fix on their end.
The do still use SimplePress and they have the tagging running on their site, so I'm hopeful
Thanks a_creative_life, I always try to share what I've found, because I sure appreciate it when someone else does!
latest update??? 5.2.2 only changed like one or two lines of code... or did you mean 5.2? would expect the latter where we started using the wp tinymce editor instead of our own version... and too many plugins that use tinymce make the mistake of assuming it will show up in the admin for writing post only...
actually, we have a ticket open to add a new plugin to handle mentions kind of things, ie the @name in content for notification, email or other... its a pretty simple plugin actually... just need a day or two to write it... never enough time it seems...
thanks for the update... let us know if they say anything... certainly we are willing to work with them again...

It might not have been the latest i.e. 5.2.2, I was going from 5.1.4 and the issue was there before the latest latest. It also is tied directly to the TinyMCE plugin. So it might actually be effected from the update to it, and not SP itself. I don't have any of the older versions of the TinyMCE plugin to verify that.
I would love to see that plugin
If I find out anything further, I'll be sure to pop back here to update you all.
that makes sense since we switched to the wp tinymce on 5.2.... I will see if I can find some time in January to work the mentions plugin...
