Tiny MCE Editor seems to be having some issues...

Hey all,

I've been having some serious issues with how the options for "reply" posts are showing up, and I'm guessing that it has something to do with the editor plugin (? I really don't know, but I have to start somewhere! ;) )

I have a completely separate test forum on another site, so I can compare this issue side by side. Both of them have the editor plugin (and lots of others, too.) Both are totally updated with the same version of the editor (3.0.6). I'm signed in as admin on both sites. (ETA: obviously, the editor plugin is activated on both sites.)

But with the test forum on the first site, everything seems to be working. If I hit "reply" to a topic, the reply box looks exactly the same as it does right here (all of the formatting options across the top.) I can type in it, submit reply, it shows up, etc.

In the other forum on the second site, it's very different. "Add reply" brings up a blank, non-clickable, grayed out box with no formatting options across the top (no way to type anything into it.) The weirdest part is that it's almost like it's getting worse on its own... yesterday, the box didn't have any formatting options across the top, but at least it was possible to leave a reply.

What could this possibly be?? The forums need to go public soon. Any and all advice appreciated! :)

And thanks again for everybody's wonderful patience.

Anise

ETA: I also went to the two forums and compared the settings for the editor side by side... they're all the same in both cases.

this may sound simple, but are the exact same themes and plugins being used on both sites? Those two are the biggest things that have caused issues for me with the editor.

One other thought would be if caching is enabled on both sites, if not on the test forum but the other, try flushing your cache and clearing your browser history, this has caused issues as well for me.

Exactly as kvr has suggested, and also - are you running any plugins that add to or modify the tinyMCE editor in any way? This could also potentially be a problem inherited from a plugin that changes the editor for the WP blog side of things as well, and definitely something that needs to be ruled out!

Hey all...

So here's what I did. .. tried the coraline theme on the main forum... that's the one on the test forum... made no difference.  Flushed browser cache... still the same.  So now we're down to the plugins... A lot of sp plugins did get downloaded to that page. .. Also some wp plugins. Are there plugins that are KNOWN to have issues with the editor? ?

only other wp plugins and wp themes that did things to the editor but did not get updated in wp 3.9 when they made a major overhaul to the wp editor...

none of our plugins conflict with any of our other plugins... at least none our none and we use them all on our test sites...

is the one not working accessible by us from the web?

Problem solved@! Kind of, anyway. ;)

I pulled up the two sites side by side and compared wp plugins, and removed all of the ones from the main site that weren't on the test site. And... that did it! The forum editor is now working. Of course, the only problem is that I don't know which plugin triggered the issue in the first place. I'll have to add them back in one by one at some point.

Thanks for all the advice! :)

yes, one by one until the conflict shows up is the best way...  would be curious to know what you find...
