Cleared js cache. Js set to load in footer.
After activating plugin and attempting to post, I get the same 500 error.
Tried clearing the js cache again just for good measure and same issue.
Disabled upload plugin again so the forum is usable.
What would be the problems, if any, of un-installing SimplePress and re-installing it and trying again?
Unless there is an extremely rare and unlikely corruption then uninstalling and reinstalling is still going to end up with the same code footprint, Plus you will lose all of your data.
This is going to be an integration issue with either another piece of software or server settings. It virtually always is. So I am going to echo what @mr-papa said above. You have errors showing up on page loads. This includes 2 JavaScript files (neither related to SP). if these are then trying to be used somewhere along the line this can cause heartache. I agree that we really do need to sweep those errors away and get page loads clean as a first priority.
One of them is: http://www.faygoluvers.net/v5/.....?ver=4.5.2
and the other is: http://www.faygoluvers.net/v5/.....?ver=3.1.6
Neither can be found by the server. I do not know what either comes from or does.
You are also getting this message at page loads:
Can't Load URL: The domain of this URL isn't included in the app's domains. To be able to load this URL, add all domains and subdomains of your app to the App Domains field in your app settings.
This too may have some relevance,

This issue is now resolved. I posted a project to Freelancer.com in hopes that someone would be able to help, and found someone who figured it out. We had to login to WHM and enable mbstring on our PHP installation. After doing that, the problem was resolved. The freelancer told me that the uploader plugin was throwing a PHP error:
-
PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_convert_encoding() in /home/faygo/public_html/v5/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins/plupload/library/sp-plupload-components.php on line 980
That's when he said that the plugin needed mbstring enabled. I did so following this article:
https://www.vmotionhost.com/cl.....038;id=136
After restarting apache, the uploader function started working. Hope this helps someone else!
Wow, Good find, It is extremely rare these days to find a php install that doesn't include mbstring as standard. WordPress always used to perform a check for it but has recently, I have noticed, started to drop those. Intrigued how your helping hand found the error.. I thought we had already looked in the php error log. But - great news.

He said that he logged in and looked at the PHP errors and found that one. He immediately suggested turning on mbstring. I've been with godaddy for nearly a year now, and this is the first time this has come up. I waited a good month to upgrade to the latest WP installation and this problem didn't come up until afterwards. Anyways, I'm just relieved that the problem is fixed. Thank you for all of your thoughts.
ah, good... the php error log usually has more insight into what is going wrong when presented with an error... in this case, not sure there was such an indication so good find... thanks for the update..

to Scott Donihoo: thanks a lot for posting your solution! Worked like a charm for me! (Had the same issue as you on a dedicated server).
