Support Forum
Hello 🙂
I installed the Template Tags and the Unanswered Posts thinking that that would be enough to achieve a section like the one shown on this forum, the "Unread and recently updated topics". But it doesn't show on my forum. What am I still missing or doing wrong? Thanks!

Did you refer to the codex page for this template tag (https://simple-press.com/docum.....red-posts/)?
However - this is not the same thing as the 'recent posts' list on the group view on our forum. That is built in to the core. By default it is shown to all users except forum admins and moderators as it is sort of expected that they keep their eyes on new posts in any case. But all of your users will see it. If you want to turn it on for admins then I can walk you through the process.

No no, it's fine, I just didn't know that I would not see it as I am administrator. Just checked after logging out and I see the list, that's good enough. Althought the title is not in Italian but I will add it with Glotpress 😀
I have another issue though, with the Template Tag: Admin and Moderator Online. I wanted to add in the footer the same section as you have here, so I added a Text widget with the shortcode in, only this line:
[sp_admins_online]
but it's not working. What do I have to do? Thanks

It removed your example as, by default, we do not allow shortcodes in posts - it would mean a mischievous user who knew we had a certain plugin installed could enter a shortcode that was unwanted! You have to turn on support for each shortcode you may want to use in forum posts.
But that is not the issue. I am going to ask a dumb question now. Can you put shortcodes in widgets? I am assuming you can but I don't know for sure as I personally tend not to use either very much. I will try and give it a try though.

oh well on the help page for the plugin, whenre it shows the shortcode, it says it can be used in widgets, so I did 😀
Nevertheless... how can I achieve the same without the shortcode? 😉

Yes - it does work - I just tested it. But you need to allow for widgets to perform shortcodes.
See this method:

I thought the same Mr Papa, they could at least make a checkbox in the Settings!

a very strong wp mantra for decisions, not options... then letting you affect behavior with hooks...
