Understanding wishlist membership and forum login overlap

Hi,

We chose wishlist as our membership plugin because of the way it works with simple press. I now have both installed but do not understand if once members have logged in to the site they will also automatically be logged in to the forum? Currently there seem to be 2 separate login entries: members' access to the webiste and members' access to the forum. Is there a way of streamlining things and getting my members (who are all on the forum anyway - it's part of the membership) to login only once through the membership plugin?

Thanks,

Audrey

there is only one login...  Simple Press does not have users and does not have any way to log in...  same for wishlist (which we use here too)...  you dont log into wishlist, you still log into WP...  wishlist provides some further actions upon login and adds a layer of access to the wp posts, pages, etc...

both simple press and wishlist can provide a login form, but they would simply be providing the form for logging into WP...  and since their is only one user, the WP user, whether logging into a wp form, wishlist form or sp form, the user info is identical... and one logged in, you are logged in across the site...

so make sure you are not password protecting the wp page the forum is on (its a wp function)...  no caching plugins?

Hi,

So the first step to configure siomple press with wirhslist says:

  1. Go to Wishlist – member levels and for each membership level you have created, map it to a unique WordPress role. You may need another WP plugin to create these new roles.

What odes "map it to a unique WP role" mean? Does it mean I have to create the membership levels I want first in simple press and then re-create the exact same ones for the WP back end??

Also, WP Roles includes a standard 'Subscriber' role which I won't be using - can I delete that or do I need to keep it? Same question for the "member' role in Simple press.

Thanks,

Audrey

Well you really need to look up WordPress Roles in the WP Codex but it is the built in WP system for assigning capabilities to your users. WP has some built in roles - Administrator, Editor, Contributor etc., which you can use. or you can define your own, new roles but will need some sort of Role Management plugin for that.

And if you go to the forum admin > User Groups > Map Users to User Group - then here you can set things up so that any new registrant assigned to a specific WP Role will automatically be assigned to a mapped forum User Group. It allows for maximum flexibility and granularity depending on what you are using the membership plugin for in the first place. basically you are trying to build a work flow of what happens to any new user and what access and capabilities they have to your forums.
