Hello,
As a standard user, the 'Upload Attachment' button is missing. If I log in as an administrator I can see it.
I have trawled the permissions but can't find anything that might affect it.

Not sure what you mean by 'permissions that might affect it'. Uploading has it's own set of user permissions that should display at the end of each permission set create/edit (i.e., last section). Are you saying you are not seeing these at all?

Sorry for not being clear. I'm saying that the 'upload attachment' button is not being displayed when a standard user adds a new topic. If I try it as an administrator it is there.

No, no - you were perfectly clear and I understood. It is just that normally my first question would be to ask if the permissions (Manage permissions) that allow a user to use the uploader options had been turned on. But you intimated that there were no permissions to be seen which is why I asked iof they were, indeed, missing.
So we still really need to answer that question.

Ok. I'm not sure I'm understanding you but hopefully this will help:
In the Manage Permission Sets for a Standard Access User, the uploading section has 'Can upload Avatars' set to green. There are no other options in the uploading section.

The permissions would be on forum - permissions - manage permissions.
For the permission set you are giving members on your forum, do they have permission to upload images, media or files? Three different permissions based on file type.

I am looking in forum - perimssions - manage permissions sets
I can see no reference at all to images, media or files. Like I said before the only thing under 'Uploading' is avatars.
I can see no reference for the user set I am trying to manage nor the adminstrator permission set which oddly does have the Upload Attachment button when you create a new topic.

Not sure how you can have the file uploader plugin for SP installed but no permissions... quite odd... so couple things to try...
first, lets go to forum - toolbox - housekeeping and reset the auths cache... lets see if that clears it up (doubtful)...
if not, then go to forum - plugins - plugins list and uninstall the file uploader plugin... then reactivate it and see if the permissions show up...

No - neither suggestion worked.
Now something else strange is happening. I can't create a topic as administrator (whereas I could yesterday to test this problem). I am a little worried about my forum's stability. Should I open another query for this?

is this a new install? or a recent upgrade? was it working before?
can you have a look in your db... at the sfauths table... how many entries do you have? and how many of the entries have a non zero value in the admin_negate column?
