Uploading plugin problem

Hi folks,

I just purchased the Silver membership for this amazing forum plugin (about an hour ago). I am trying to upload the "Maintenance" mode plugin (in zip format), using the plugin uploader. I am getting two different error messages from WP:

"Could not move file to wp-content/uploads"....or "Are you sure you want to do this?"

That said, when I looked into the wp-content/uploads folder, it has been placed there.....but isn't it supposed to go into the so-resources/forum-plugins folder?

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Tim

Odd coincidence. We had a user just a couple of days ago in similar circumstances but before that it had been months since anyone had a problem!

Might I suggest you quickly read through that thread as it probably has all the information in it that is needed...

Ok, I took a good look at that other post. Checked my file permissions etc and they are ok.

I'm getting the "Are you sure you want to do this" WP message repeatedly now, but the file DOES upload to the wp-content/uploads folder regardless, each time I click on "Please try again". Is that where it's supposed to go (logic would assume)? However, how do I get it to install into the sp-resources/forum-plugin folder? (And it's not listed in the available plugins section yet).

Thanks again.

The way the WordPress updater works is to firstly upload the file into the 'uploads' folder (under wp-content) and then copy it to the correct location. Finally iy should delete the one in uploads. I am not sure when it performs the unzipping to be honest but I can ask my colleague who wrote the interface.

The reason I suggested permissions is that it seems, in your case, that it is failing to make the copy and when this happens permissions is usually the problem.

Have you tried using FTP instead any bypassing the WP uploader?

unzipping occurs in uploads...  just to be sure, you are using the sp plugin uploader and not the wp plugin uploader, right?  if its getting into forum-plugins, would indicate you are...

next step would be verify permissions on sp-resources and forum-plugins...  should match wp-content...typically 0644(for php) and 755 (for dirs)...  and then verify ownership - ie the uid and gid.. again, should match wp-content...

when you see it in forum-plugins, what is it called?  is it name properly?  but since not showing up, indicates permissions issue...

Ok, I have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out folks.

The permissions (755/644), UID's and GID's match Wordpress. These are all set as "myusername:myusername", with the exception of the WP uploads folder which is set as "myusername:www-data" so that Apache can write to it.

Plugins upload into Wordpress just fine, but when I try to upload via the SP uploader I continue to get the error message: "The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads." Nothing is appearing in the Uploads folder or in the SP plugins section.

That said, when I FTP the unzipped plugins directly into the SP-Resources plugin folder, that works fine and the plugin shows up and activates just fine. Would be nice to be able to use the SP uploader though....so would appreciate more help with this. Thanks!

the sp uploader is really just the wp uploader with a location change...  did you verify the uploads permission and ownership as well as sp-resources?  if you can ftp and all works, its likely not an sp-resources permission issue, but either wp-content or uploads...

That error message ('The uploaded file could...') is actually a wp error message in the uploader in their file handling routines... so its wp failing, not sp...

So under wp-content/uploads are their any other directories?  when you try to upload something, wp by default creates a year folder and then within those month folders...  do you have any?  have you been able to upload any media (ie images) using the wp media editor?
