Can you please explain to me the benefits of using tags in posts oppose to disabling them?
I added the Tags plugin but I am not sure I really want more options for users to choose from as I feel it could distracted or confuse them from the content if they are new to the forum.
Do Tags help with SEO and if so is there a way to have the Tags plugin activated but only show the option to add tags and then hide them from view to keep the forum a little more simple?

depends how you use the Tags... it allows topic creators to categorize their new topic... identify some key words for what they their topic is about... you can search by tags so it gives another way to narrow down search results... you can also see posts with related tags with one click... so if you were looking at a post that was tagged with 'install help', you could easily look at just posts with the same tags or tags that might be in the post... and additionally, yes, it can help SEO... if you have the Tags plugin, for topics that have tags, you can make the meta keywords be the tags for that topic...
