Good morning!

I'm using the Reboot child theme and copied a version (with another name) of the minimal overlay which I'm trying to alter to fit the style I want.

While I was able to find most of the things – I'm a little stuck on the background and the font color of the forum groups (which I want to be different from the regular forums)

Here is a screenshot with some notes on what I'm after:

Would love some help/pointers! 🙂

Thanks,
Nick

PS: I also added the Dutch translation to the Reboot project, not sure if I need to inform anyone or what have you (so it can be added).

Hey Nick,

Although it might seem like Minimal is a good choice to build from, it wasn't really intended to be used that way.

It appears to me that you might have changed some things that didn't need changing, for example it looks like you've given 'spColumnSection' a background colour, but if you wanted to change the colour of the index rows you should really be changing the value of $indexRowOddBackGround and $indexRowEvenBackGround in the minimal overlay along with their corresponding hover counterparts.

I'm also not sure why your icons in the header (on the right 'expand' and 'rss') have light grey backgrounds. Have you done this in the child theme stylesheet? I would have thought the best way would have been to recolour the icons.

Headers: if you inspect the element in your browser, it has the class of:

#spMainContainer .spHeaderName

If you search for 'spHeaderName' in reboot.php, you will see that it uses the variable $headerNameColor which can be found in the minimal overlay.

Now normally you would assign $headerNameColor a different baseColor, but since minimal uses a very minimal palette it might be better to just assign it a HTML colour, i.e:

    $headerNameColor                    =    '#FF0000';         # Used for the text in View Headings

This will make it red. It's probably best to do it this way for the majority of colour changes you want to make, as the baseColors are used throughout the overlay for different things, changing one will change it wherever it's used.

Background: I think when using minimal the easiest way to change the forum background is by adding this rule to your child themes reboot.php stylesheet:

#spMainContainer {
    background: #FF0000;
}

This won't interfere with anything else and all elements of the forum will appear white on top (unless you've changed anything elsewhere). It's important to note that the breadcrumbs will still have a white arrow, so you'll also need to change the value of '$breadCrumbsArrowColor' to match i.e:

    $breadCrumbsArrowColor                =   '#FF0000';         # Used for the breadcrumbs indented arrow

Hope that helps. Do ask if you have any further questions of course, looks like you're making some headway there. If you do get fed up and would rather someone else did it, note that we do offer a custom theme service 😉

Thanks a lot, Ike!

Got everything implemented and it's starting to look pretty slick 🙂

I'll probably need a little more help later on to clean things up a little further, but we're getting there!
