Best Wordpress theme to use for SimplePress

I have tried searching for this but "wordpress" and "theme" are probably the 2 worst words I could search for on this forum :)

My SimplePress install is on an intranet and the WP install is only used for simple press. Obviously the SimplePress theme does most of the styling but there is a major difference in look/feel when using different WP themes.

Before WP3.8 & the latest SP build I was using the Atahualpa theme, but after upgrading I couldn't get the SP TinyMCE plugin to display and some of the layout wasn't great. After some experimentation, I found Montezuma (same dev as Atahualpa so lots of options if needed), and that gives me a reasonably nice look and feel overall.

There are a few niggles that I could correct in CSS for sure, but I was wondering, what is the recommended WP theme for putting simple-press onto? If not recommended, certainly what do others use that work well? For example, this very support forum, what WP theme is that?

Thanks,

Mike

I should mention, I am using the unified SP theme, in desktop, mobile and tablet instances.

A difficult question as there are literally thousands of WordPress themes and most of them will work. But more often than not small tweaks to CSS are required. It is inevitable to be honest when you are working with such a flexible and open system such as WordPress.

For what it is worth - this site uses a customised version of the 'Responsive' theme from CyberChimps. We used to use - and still do on our Codex - the Avisio theme. But again - it was heavily customised.

Mr Papa is a big fan of the Genesis framework and I know he has used that quite a lot when building websites for others. And finally, of course, any of the default WP themes are always a good starting point.

Maybe someone else might care to add any recommendations....

Thanks Yellow Swordfish. My aim was to do as little customisation as possible as it the SP install is for staff only and there are only 7 users, with no more planned in the near future. We basically track software development and marketing/business projects on threads.

I will try some of your suggestions and see if it gets me closer to a "done" design without customising than Montezuma, if not, I will stick to that - already looks very cool. As it is hidden from the outside world, attached is a screenshot. Just need the button borders padding out a little and a small issue with magnifying images sorted and we would be 100% done.

Been using SP for a few years now. Absolutely love the solution.

Always nice to hear of a happy user! Thank you.

Clearly the WordPress theme is having an impact on the button rendering but it looksto me like a little tweak to the spButton class in the Unified.php style file should correct it if you want to go down that route.
