Combing Unified and Default

There is much to love about the Unified theme, but I don't like how open it is. I like the boxed container look and feel of the default theme. Is it possible to have the breadcrumbs layout from Unified to show up like that in the default theme? The breadcrumbs in the default theme make it look kind of cheap.

I guess I am basically looking for a theme pretty much the same as the default one here at Simple-Press, but with different colors.

Sure its possible and quite easy, first you need to create your own theme to preserve any changes you've made such as the breadcrumbs.

Have a look at creating a theme

You will want to use the default theme for your base, then its just a case of taking elements from unified and swapping them for the ones in default.

Let us know how you get on, and if you need any further help.

I will add to that that what you would need to transfer are all of the #spBreadCrumbs CSS rules and you would need also to change the values currently populated using php echo statements as some of those variables will not exist in the default theme.

I would advise waiting until after we release 5.5.1 - all being well some time next week - as this will give you child theme capability and make things easier in he long term.

I would also consider changing Unified to be what you need rather that the other way around as it might be a more straightforward approach.

Ah.. now I see your email!

Try giving the #spMainContainer element a border property and changing the padding from 0px to, say 6px and see if that does what you want. You could even give it a background-color property if you preferred.
