Compatible Mobile Theme

I have just added a mobile theme to my website so that users viewing it on a mobile device do not need to keep zooming in to see everything and it seems to work quite nicely until I click on the forum page, which is now blank.

The theme I want to use is

WP Mobile Edition - mTheme

I am wondering if there is a compatibility issue here.  As my main theme is black and red I need my mobile theme to match this.  I have updated the settings in my SP forum dashboard so that mobile theme support is enabled and selected the sky-red overlay.  Can you please tell me why the forum page goes blank when I activate the mobile theme for the site?

I can firstly tell you that you do not yet have a truly 'mobile' ready SP theme as we are still working on it.

I can't tell you why the sky-red overlay should deliver a blank page however. I will need to conduct a few tests although we do have no other reports of this.

Can you confirm exactly which SP theme you are using with the sky-red overlay so I can set uo a test?

sky red works generally speaking.... fair number of folks using it... more likely a wp theme issue...

might need to play with the display settings on forum - integration - page and permalink...

I am using Default 1.2.2 by Andy Staines, Steve Klasen and Brandon C - this seems to be the only theme available on my plugin.

What settings should I change on integration?

as we said, mainly the display options...  display multiple and display in loop...

additionally, might be worth trying the strict WP API option up in the integration options...

Can I please get something straight?  If I am not using a mobile theme on my site, but set the mobile theme settings within SP should the forum appear in a mobile/tablet format, or will that only happen if I have a mobile theme on the rest of the site?  I have given up with trying to use a mobile theme for the rest of the site because it is not a responsive theme that I have and I don't want to change my main theme, but I am not sure whether the forum itself should appear in a mobile format regardless, or if that will only work if the main theme is a mobile theme?

OK - let's see if I can explain this! Let's start by ignoring the mobile question for the moment.

WordPress provides the framework and the theme/templates for your website and this includes, of course, the forum page. So - changing your WP theme will often make a difference to the forum display in that it controls that space on the page that the forum utilises.

The SP theme/templates control the display of just the forum within that page space. We can not effect the WP part of the equation.

So - if you use a WordPress 'mobile' theme then it may well change the way the forum space is displayed but it will NOT effect the layout of the forum itself. SP will need it's own 'mobile' theme/templates to enable that to happen. And - at the moment - there isn't one available.

But... we ARE working diligently on one and it is a priority for us. See https://simple-press.com/slowl.....ng-mobile/ for more details.

I am not really sure if this explains what you want to know. You may ask why there is the option within SP to utilise a separate theme when a mobile agent is being used - when there are no mobile specific themes available. Well - firstly it is preparation for things to come and secondly there have been one or two users who went off to try and make one for themselves who will need that functionality.

Ok, great, I get that, or at least I think I do.  So, to sum up the mobile functionality is not currently available but will hopefully be soon.  Am I right in understanding also that it doesn't matter whether I use a mobile WP theme or not, SP acts in its own right and once this is released it will appear as a mobile theme regardless of which WP theme I use?  When it is released will it come in a standard update of SP or will there be the need to download another plugin?

Er... no. That is not the case I am afraid. As I said, all the SP theme can do is format the display area on the page the forum uses. Everything else - header, footer, sidebar perhaps etc., can not be effected by anything we do with SP. So - if you Wp thee has, for example, a sidebar and is NOT mobile ready, then you will till get that sidebar on a small device. Nothing we can do about that. You really need to have one of the growing number of responsive WP themes...

When it is released will it come in a standard update of SP or will there be the need to download another plugin?

No - not a pluigin but yes - a theme.

Ok, last question, I think, how will I know when the new mobile SP theme is available?
