After the recent update my whole forums theme / formatting is broken, I have tried disabling all of the forum plugins and the wp plugins it doesnt change anything... 
... any ideas ?

I haven't changed my main theme .. all i did was do the update

A couple of things you can check.
1) Go to Forum Admin > Options - Global Settings and turn off combining/compressing CSS files.
2) I don't know what SP theme you are running, or if a custom one, but if one of the ones with overlays try the CSS Only theme. You can get it here and use the SP theme uploader to install.
If either works then it will narrow down what is going on.

np. glad to help. it just means your host is not allowing php parsing of css files...
