Hi,

I'm playing with the sky-red theme and was wondering if I need to use a new name?  I guess it will get overwrited when there will be an update?  How to properly use custum styling for a theme so we get updates and keep our own styling?

yes, you should make your own theme... copying ours to start is fine...  we should have codex article up on this soon...

but copy the main directory in sp-resources/forum-themes to a new folder and rename it to whatvever you want...

Edit the spTheme.txt file and change the info as required...

also be sure to edit the spFunctions.php template file and change the theme name portion of the text domain to keep it from clashing from the one you copied...

Geesh...  but the problem will be when you'll update the theme, let's say with new added string, then I won't get those...

With many WP themes, usually there is a custom.css file that handle cosmetic change by users and this don't penalize of future upgrade.

not if you use the wp updater... any files in the theme are replaced... so the custom.css would have to be in another folder... or a child theme...

wp keeps talking about doing partial or incremental updates where they dont replace the entire folder, but nothing yet...
