Positioning and styling the first post to look different from replies?

Is is possible to style the first post of a thread to resemble a wordpress post and position it above all other elements, including the avatar and log in buttons? I'd like the users to feel like their contributions really matter and give the forum a true user based feel.

you would have to write some custom code and possible some db queries to get the data you wanted... and then display it...
or perhaps you could try using the recent posts template tag (from the template tags plugin) and display it above the forum on topic view and limit the forum id and topic id to the current ones... and one post of course... but we have never tried it like that...
