I'm sorry for creating another topic, but I remember Mr. Papa explaining that plugin icons can now be stored in sp_resources/forum-themes/THEME/styles/images to prevent the plugin updates from overwriting the custom icons. I believe he also stated that the above location would be checked prior to the plugin image folders to display the icons.
I've searched and checked all threads I've participated in and can't find the reference.
Anyway, I do so with my custom icons for the plugins and today's Admin Bar plugin update did not function that way. The old default icons have returned.

I can't replicate any problem. Have you cleared your browser cache? Actually Firefos sometimes seems to need more than that to completely reload image files!

It loaded the default icons from the update immediately after the update. I re-uploaded the correct icons and then showed immediately also.

update of what? the plugin? or theme? do you have your own theme?

Plugin updates. I have my own theme. Based on a previous post I moved my custom plugin icons to THEME/styles/images as the post said SP would look there prior to the plugin image folder.

Yes, named correctly. When I created the icons I also copied the new icons to the resources/forum-plugins/ root as I suspected they would be overwritten upon updates. Once I read the post about moving to THEME/styles/images I moved the whole bunch to that location and uploaded.

THEME/styles/images is the wrong folder. That is for images used by the CSS
You want THEME/images.
