Oh goodness me. That's awful...
I suspect it just simply means that Safari is way behind in putting it's CSS3 support in place compared to all the other browsers. Which is a bit of a surprise especially when you consider that Chrome - also built on webkit - supports it all perfectly.
As a committed Mac OSX user I have to say that Safari was never one of the best things that Apple produce. And I certainly never use it.
The question is what can be done... and that, I fear, is going to take some and possibly much research. And we all hate putting in special code for one errant browser that can't display things properly!
I will open a bug report straight away and investigate.

our breadcrumbs are a combination of css, image and custom filter code to get the appearance... interesting it works here... when I visit your site on m pc with safari it seems to look proper...
Andy will be along shortly and may be able to test more on his mac...

At the moment we have found no solution to the Safari breadcrumbs issue I am afraid. It is very frustrating. And until Safari adopts a few more CSS3 standards it looks like we are stuck with it. Sadly - it is often Safari that is behind the pack partly, I think, because they do not issue updates as often as most other browser suppliers.
So - my fingers are firmly crossed that the next Safari updater will provide the proper standards. We would really much prefer not to have to revert to 1995 technology to solve an issue with one browser on OSX - if we can avoid it... as I am sure you can understand.
Personally - as much as I am a dedicated OSX user - I have never got on that well with Safari. I appreciate that it is the fastest browser but it is also the one that most often let's us down on the standards front - especially with it's own JavaScript engine which has often been found to be behind the rest of the pack in terms of functionality.
If this doesn't get resolved very soon then I guess we will have to rethink and I can assure you we do revisit the issue regularly...

Not to be too much of a nuisance, but why don't you just implement the breadcrumbs navigation in the same way you have done it for this forum? It really looks fantastic, arguably better than the more pointed version. It seems like it would take an annoying problem off your hands with (possibly) very little work, considering you have already written the code. The only reason I bring this up is because I assume that a large portion of your user base is on mac with safari, which may or may not be accurate. Just my two cents.
