From your twitter messages...

once we formally release 5.0, backwards compatibility will be king. but until then, we want to get it right. so sorry for any inconvenience.

unfortunately, this means if you have created your own theme during beta, you will need to update it with changes or adjust for them. sorry.

I was wondering what would happen if you had to update the theme files - how are we to update our own themes, will you be advising us on what files have been changed so that we can copy them over from the default theme's folder onto our own?

I'm more concerned about the changes being made to the default.php file. Perhaps I should put #remarks where I changed the variables on my files.

as we have said, you should not be editing our theme files... you need to copy one (or someone elses) as a starting point and make modifications there...

then any of our updates will not affect your theme...

now, during the beta, its possible (has already happened but hopefully no more after the update today) that we have to change the theme and users need to make a corresponding change to their theme... but moving forward we will try our hardest to prevent that... so if you dont update themes, nothing will break, but you may not be able to use new features without updating them...

if you want to see what has changed including actual differences, visit our websvn site for themes at:

http://websvn.simple-press.com.....templates/

and you can review the changes...

this is very similar to how wp themes work if you make any changes to them...

Perhaps I've not been clear - what I did was copy the original theme files onto a new theme folder called HoneyGold and added that name to the Theme.txt file along with my modified colour overlay. I renamed the copied default.php. I then was able to select my theme from 'Available Themes' and my modifed overlay from 'Available overlays'. Any modifications I do are done through the editor, on my own theme.

But you've answered my question re any important changes to theme files.

It's been a pleasure working on this forum plugin - you've done a great job.

yeah, I know you have already done it...  just took the opportunity to get it out in front of anyone else reading this topic...

things should be slowing down greatly on theme changes more than minor nits...  though wouldnt be surprised if we have to a make a tweak or two to the sig changes we just pushed out...  hard to test every configuration...
