So have installed Simple Press on my live site, first it told me to upgrade to 5.7.2, even though it wasnt installed (probably tried it a few years ago or something and some data still in db??)

So I did that, then I went through the updates, until it updated no more, all went well

I then deactivated the 5. simple press and installed latest from Wordpress repo

Now all I get in under the plugin listing is :-

"Simple:Press is READY TO BE REMOVED. When you deactivate it ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED"

When I click FORUM on the side bar, it shows me 2 options only "admin" and "promotion" nothing, nowhere to see or create a forum

I deactivate and re-activate and still the same, I deactivate, delete and re install and still the same endless loop.

Would really like to get this installed, but it seems to be some old install of SP blocking it?? (I guess?)

Hi:

If you have version 5.x of Simple:Press installed on the site before, you can't just install version 6.  Unfortunately the version 5 to version 6 install is a bit more of a manual process - you can see the instructions here: https://simple-press.com/docum.....rsion-6-x/

As for the message you're getting that "all data will be removed", the only way that should show up is the the data removal option was checked in your settings screen before the plugin was deactivated.  I suspect that, since you didn't know it was installed before, someone else checked that option before deactivating the old plugin but likely didn't follow through with the proper data removal (maybe they just deleted the plugin files which would not have removed the database tables).

If you're not using the data in version 5 (which it sounds like you aren't using since you didn't even it was installed before), you can go directly into the database and remove all tables that start with 'sf'.  Then you can do a fresh install of version 6.x.

If you do go that route, make sure you deactivate the version 6.x plugin. And backup your database just in case you accidentally delete a non-sf table.

I hope this helps.

Yes, those are the tables.  They all are prefixed with 'sf'.

Make sure you take a backup.
