as a plugin for WordPress, we are pretty much limited to using the api provided by it...
we will try to take a look at the theme and see if any easy way out when we can... but best to use themes and plugins that live within the wp framework...

took a quick look... they are storing the avatar in the wp user meta, so that is good... but they only access it via their custom function cosmo_avatar()... and that actual function is not include here...
in ideal wp world, they would have hook into the wp avatar api via the get_avatar hook...

Not sure there is anything to fix... the theme is doing its own thing... less than optimal, but not wrong per se... just means it cannot interact with other plugins like simple press... at least not without a special purpose code interface which we would only do for a large installed base of users of both...
