I am not a coder nor do I profess to be one. In a previous question, I was given codespeak and I really have no idea what to do with that..with that said..
I'm also not a novice and have made use of snippets here and there in the past to accomplish what I required.
I am seeking to put Online users on the main page of my wordpress in a widget form. Is there is php snippet that will accomplish this? If so can you please share it. Otherwise can you give me some steps to follow instead of just telling me about hooks and API. I just need a small piece of information to assist me in my site.

Odd. I can only find one other topic from you and we didn't offer any code in that as you would have need a complete custom plugin to achieve it. So a little confused by that...
We don't have a separate tag or widget to display this data. I just tried with the template function and while it displays it is missing some items due to being out of scope. That's a shame really and something I will open a ticket for as it would make a possible useful tag to offer.
But - having said that - I should point out that this only covers users who are visiting the forum, NOT users who are visiting the website generally. There are WP plugins available that will cover this sitewide (like 'WP-userOnline' perhaps and one that even can show a map and location.
I don't recall ever being asked for a tag or widget to do this but, as I say, I can see it could be useful; and will get a ticket and task opened right away

That is correct. Only one topic from me. But the direction it went in was not favorable. I don't follow API and hooks..I just asked for help with something. But I did figure it out and was able to do what I need to be done but in a different way. So all worked out.
The reason I ask for this particular code is due to the fact that we are coming from SMF to Simple:Press and whilst you say they are two different functions, it still makes it appear to be streamlined together. SMF had a portal. It has the users online and such in the portal. WP is the portal to Simple:Press in this instance and I just want to be sure my users feel at home as they have in SMF for many years.
WP-Useronline is pretty horrible. I want to be able to click on a person's name and be taken to their profile. With this addon it is not possible.
With that said...Simple:Press is amazing. I am loving using it so far. My site is not available just yet but I have it built locally and am tinkering away on it. I LOVE the fact that you can have different topic icons. That makes me a happy camper.
I look forward to seeing the feature above listed. That would be amazingly good. Please keep me updated.

Actually - I am being somewhat stupid here, There already IS a tag you can use to simply display the users who are currently online within the forum. But you need to Install our 'Who is Online' SP plugin first.
Then you can use the tag (using example labels):
<?php sp_OnlineCurrentlyOnline('','Members Online: ','Guests Online');; ?>And you CAN use this in a text widget as long as you have a WP plugin like the 'ezPHP for WordPress' installed and active that allows for using php in widgets and posts.
