Hello,
I've been trying to figure out if there was a way to start a forum topic, and make that into an article post with a featured image and everything. I know you can turn an article into a forum post, but I'm curious if I start a topic and once I share it as an article, it goes directly to the forum and I can link it among my blog posts. Is this possible? Thanks.
Hey Brandon,
I would have thought by the way you're talking about this that you're already using the Blog Post Linking plugin, and if so yes it's possible to automatically create both an article from a topic and a topic from an article at the time of creation.
Your wording has lost me slightly in that last sentence though, starting a topic and sharing it as an article is surely done using the blog post linking plugin, but I'm not sure about 'it goes directly to the forum and I can link it among my blog posts', could you explain that process a little clearer? Surely that's the same thing.
If you're not using blog post linking, then it will do exactly what you've asked for in your topic title i.e 'Adding forum posts as articles'.
Sorry if I've missed the obvious there!
The option to link a blog post to the forum is what I have now. I'm referring to basically:
- If you see a post shared on social media, it has a picture, and the appearance of an article.
- The same post can be viewed on one's main page of their site
- However, when you click on said post, it does not take them to an article, but instead to the forum
I've seen other sites do this, I was curious if this forum allows this as well. I fully understand the blog linking to forum option as I've used that thus far.
Here's one of our competitors. The top post BONE: Insider Report, is exactly what I'm referring to. Hope this helps. It has the appearance of an article, but when you click on it, it goes straight to the message board.
kind of lost me... If you put an image in a post, and do a forum linked blog post, are you saying the image does not appear in the forum post? it did for me in quick test... @yellow-swordfish is working on an update to blog linking that will grab the featured image as well...

I am a little lost on the choice of words as well so let's just describe a few things. First - new blog post -> forum topic:
- A new post on your blog can automatically be copied, at publishing time, to be the first post of a new forum topic. Use the form that displays on the WP Write Post/Page which will reflect the blog linking settings.
- Images contained in blog posts will appear in the forum topic.
- The WP 'featured image' however, is not currently supported but is planned to be.
- There is a known bug that images inserted into blob posts with captions can fail to be passed to the new forum topic. This is a bug due to be rectified.
Now new forum topic -> blog post:
- Any new forum topic can be automatically copied to make a linked blog post.
- When creating the new forum topic initial post, use the options link below the editor and check the option to 'Create and link blog post to this topic' prior to saving.
- When this option is selected a drop down list of blog categories will open so your new blog post can also be categorised.
- Note this option is only available on the first post of a topic.

I just did what you suggested, and that's not what I'm referring to. I sent an example as to what this should look like. Not sure why this doesn't makes sense. In the example, the article showing on the front page immediately takes you to the forum when clicked. When I created the forum topic --> blog post, it shows a blog post. I do not want it to show a blog post. I want to know if it is possible to go directly to the forum. The example can't be anymore clearer.
I still don't see what you are really asking, What link/url you use in social media sites is entirely up to you and completely down to how you share it. If you share it from a forum post then it will link to the forum post. If you share it from a blog post then it will link to the blog post. Seems pretty basic and clear to me I am afraid,.
