Any news on simple:press forum changes?

I read a while ago that you had plans to retire from simple:press and were looking for someone to take it over. I think your deadline was in June of this year if I remember correctly. Are there any updates on this? How will simple:press users be informed about such changes? Not all are signed up for the support forum. Will there be another way of notifying all users?

How much advance notice will we be getting when changes are about to occur?

I know you are looking for someone to take over. If you would not find someone to take over, would this mean that simple:press might cease to exist? I am just asking because simple:press is and has been a major component of my business for a long time, and I want to be prepared for possible changes.

Also is there an ETA for version 5.8?

so tough questions! 😉 and may not have all the answers...

first, we are planning a 5.8 release in late May...  the code is really done, we just have a bunch of testing to do...  and both Andy and I have vacations planned in April....  but its a priority...

Our 'retirement' date is end of July... that's when we are planning to conclude our SP activities...

Afraid I dont currently have anything to report on someone taking over Simple Press... We have engaged in discussions with several folks, but nothing finalized or concrete yet...  And truth in advertising, it is entirely possible that we wont find anyone to take over...

What happens in this case?  I dont have a ready answer for that one...  I dont really see Andy or I continuing much past July (we have been doing this since 2005/2006), but might depend on interest from other parties... barring any interest, the answer might not be what you (or others) want to hear...

Some of the interested parties are just as anxious for us to get 5.8 out there since they want a firm codebase to consider...  so our first step is to get that released...

we will try to keep all updated...  sorry for not having the complete answer at this time...

Sorry to hear this.. There is no sp replacement that i can think of right offhand. Sure there is forum software like phpBB and vBulletin but neither come anywhere near Simple:Press features and capabilities.

With Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg being royally Zucked forums should see more use. Now more than ever people are concerned about their privacy. Might consider not giving up just yet..

We are still hoping all works out well. I will be 67 later this year - simply getting too old for this!
