I mean I’m sorry, we just installed wordpress and installed the plugins we needed. I don’t know why its doing that, but it seems to work for us for the most part.

I feel like there should still be a way to get the glyphs to load. If they’re just fonts, it shouldn’t be that hard to force them to show up somehow… even with all our errors.

We’re not web developers, and we have very specific needs for our community. So under the circumstances I think we’ve made a pretty functional and attractive website for our needs.

I know where you’re coming from, as being relatively new to WordPress myself (last 2 years or so) I’ve had a lot to learn with both the positive and the pitfalls. It’s always worth remembering that while WordPress is an amazing platform with a huge array of community driven plugins and themes that’s also where the bulk of the problems come in with badly written content that doesn’t conform to the WP API. When you have something that doesn’t do things by the book you may not notice a problem at first, it’s when you run something complex like SP along side something badly written that you will notice issues. And what’s really unfortunate / infuriating is these issues nearly always stomp all over all other plugins, taking precedence over something that does fully play by WP rules such as SP.

It’s always worth checking out the rating, support questions and developer response on any plugin you’re thinking of adding from the WP repository, some haven’t been updated in a long time, some are riddled with problems with no feedback from the developer and some just plain don’t work. It’s a real shame but just adding plugins that you think will work out great and don’t is really the fault of the plugin / theme developers, not you, not us and not WordPress. I guess what I’m saying is research is important, and you can’t expect every free plugin from the WP site to simply work and not cause problems elsewhere.

Yes, your site is visually looking great! I also think Barebones theme fits it perfectly which is nice to see. The font issue isn’t over of course, it just might take a little more investigating to figure out.

Are you getting icons against every forum menu item in the admin panel / WP dashboard? These are also fonts / glyphs.

And yes all the dashboard glyphs seem to work just fine, Barebones is the first time we’ve seen it be a problem

They are showing up as 404’s – file not found. As they ARE at the location expected then that perhaps leaves, perhaps, a permissions issue… Probably easiest to ask your host support if this is the case on the font folder.

Oh I am the host. I mean I can chmod it if you think that would make a difference.

We host all our own hardware. We run SolusVM to manage all our VPS units. We’re just also stupid lol

Not 777. But check that the fonts folder and files inside the folder are 755 and 644 as they should be, And maybe check the GUID and UID as well to ensure they inherited from the parent wp-content ok.

Bottom line is that the console reports 404’s. In my experience that is usually because they are not there or can’t be accessed.

I downloaded barebones this morning to test it on my staging server and I am noticing the same thing, all folders are 755 and the barebones.ttf is 644, one other thing I noticed is the font increaser plug in does not seem to work with it. Is this normal?

Really like the minimal styling though.

Good point on the Font Resizer, Barebones does it’s fonts a little differently as it allows you to change the overall font size in Forum > Themes > Barebones Customiser, it has to have a set font size. My guess is the Font Resizer relies on the theme not having a set font size in order to work so we will have to investigate that, thanks!

No they are not, when i get to a pc i will reinstall it and try your patch again, i may have screwed it up.

worrying…. can I assume that when you run the forum admin the ‘accordion’ control on the left DOES display icons for each section? I ask simply because these are handled identically as BB does.

I’ve just downloaded it from the store and it already contains the changes so it should work fine so looks like we will have to look into it further.

I’ve opened up a ticket on the Font Resizer with Barebones.

Hmm, alright, i will install a fresh copy and test it, if an issue i will post my staging server address for you to look at, im not seeing any errors on the page.

There does appear to be the possibility of some odd permission settings on files. They appear to have the same permission as folders (755) instead of the correct file permission of 644.

Clearly this is wrong but it seems to have been applied to ALL files and clearly the CSS files etc., ARE loading.

Bit if you see this on your install and can try changing the font files to 644 just to see if this is a cause it would be much appreciated.

Well tested and it is still an issue, I mispoke, my permission setting is 664 for the image file not 644, we use wpengine for our hosting and they do not allow us to change any permission settings due to security concerns, so I am not sure what options I would have if I wanted to use it and the permission settings were the issue. Here is my staging server if it is worth looking at.
