Post 11 means you have not updated all or any of the SP plugins you are using. In particular Private Messaging. Which is actually mentioned in the error message.

Post 12 eludes me. You said at the very beginning that you updated SP to 5.7.3. This message suggests this to be the case but at the same time it is saying that the SP files you have put back are NOT the newly updated ones.

Send me the sp-control.php file as an attachment. It is in the main 'simple-press' folder.

I had the same issue. I renamed the simple-press plugin on the server to "oldsimple-press" and got my site back (minus the forum). I made a copy and downloaded it to my pc. Currently am backing up the site before I install the new WP update. Haven't deleted the "oldsimple-press" plugin yet.

I was wondering if I could just install the new WP version and then change the plugin file name back to "simple-press" on my server. Think it would work?

Updating the WP version first is the way to upgrade any WP plugin or theme that relies on that wp version...  if the plugin or theme requires a specific version, always should be running that WP version first...

yes, leave the simple press plugin folder name changed, then update wp, then name it back...  you may have to reactivate then in the wp plugins...

Thanks, I'll edit this post when I'm done and let you know how it worked.
