Support Forum
Some of my members are having problems attaching images to their posts (and since most of them are visual artists, and we use the forum to share our work, this is a big problem).
I thought it might be a file size issue, but I just got the following note from a user:
I tried reducing the size of my images to only about 60K each, and I still get the following error message:
smallGabrielJPG.JPG: Error 105 - Invalid file type
smallMichael.JPG: Error 105 - Invalid file type
They are JPGs. I'm not sure what more to do??
Any suggestions? I'm really stumped. Could it be the use of capital letters in the file name??
Thanks,
Melissa
Sounds like you need to go to the File Uploads admin panel (in Components) and check all those settings. It IS case sensitive so 'jpg' is not the same as 'JPG' - for example.
So make sure that you have all the file types you want to allow in the various lists. Check the size limitations imposed etc., and then see if that resolves the issues.

Good news and bad news:
Good news: one of my users was finally able to get her images uploaded.
Bad news: another user wrote that she tried another test with a photo of size of 63KB, which should be fine since I changed the maximum file size to approx 120KB, but she still got this error message:
IMG_0037.JPG: Error 106 - Upload file size exceeds maximum allowed size.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Melissa
just to be sure, that value is on forum - components - file uploads... in the Image Files section... in the option
Maximum size (in bytes) of image files (0 = no limit)
The size check is working just fine - tested it again tonight... so a bit puzzled... might be worth verifying she has the image size right...

Yep, that's the place. I have now removed ALL size limitations -- we'll see if that works. Meanwhile, I asked my user what the pixel dimensions are; perhaps it was bigger than what I had specified, though I won't know until she writes back.
Bearing in mind we rarely find out how knowledgeable our users are on any given subject then please excuse me if you are already expert in this
Pixel size (dimensions) do not equate to file size (bytes). So if your users 63kb was based on width x height then this will be inaccurate.
The SP limitation is on file size which can cater for a wide range of maximum dimensions depending on the type of the image file, the amount of compression is has been subjected to, the complexity of the image etc.
