Support Forum
Hi!
I just added a platinum membership, downloaded the software, uploaded the plugin and tried to activate it. I got this error message:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare sp_get_option() (previously declared in /nas/content/live/ngpa/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/functions/template-tags/deprecated.php:500) in /nas/content/live/ngpa/wp-content/plugins/simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-primitives.php on line 95
Is Simple Press incompatible with The Events Calendar? Or is there some way to get around this error?
Thanks!
event calender has a function named the same as us... so it conflicts... its even a deprecated function in events calendar...
please see this thread: https://simple-press.com/suppo.....g/#p160998
you could try deactivating events calendar as well, then reactivating since its deprecated and overloaded, the order will make a difference...

Thanks!
I'll try that in the next couple of days and will report back whether or not changing the order solves the problem. If it doesn't, I'll remove the function. Of course, that could well be problematic for future releases of their software so it's something I'll need to keep track of.
Thanks for the help.
Okay, that was simple.
I have five plugins from The Modern Tribe (all event-related) but the one in conflict was the most basic, in terms of underlying all of the others. It's the one called simply The Events Calendar.
I deactivated it, activated simple press, then reactivated The Events Calendar. It worked fine and both products seem to be working. I was able to go through the initial installation of simple press without error and the events functionality also seems to be working.
Thanks for a neat solution! 🙂
Hmmm... I may have spoken too soon. 🙁
When I click on Forum, the only options I see are Your Admin options. If I choose an option by following the "not the task you're looking for" link, I get "You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page."
Since I'm logged in as a WordPress admin, that doesn't seem right. I may try deinstalling SP and the event calendar and then re-installing. Unfortunately, that will destroy some important test data in the calendar so I'm a bit loathe to do that to other users who are helping to build this new site.
but these are not likely related...
are you sure your admin panel is 'fresh'? the link uses a nonce which may time out if you sit on the page for a length of time... please try loading an admin panel from the far left wp admin forum admin links... and then try the button again..

Thanks!
I was logged in as WP admin user. I logged out and in again, with the same results. Since you didn't think these problems were likely linked, I decided to investigate further. I did find and solve the problem. Here's what I found.
1. This is what I would get when I clicked on "Forum" in the WP dashboard:
2. I had been assuming that the administrator role would have complete forum management capabilities but we all know what happens when we make these assumptions. I checked the capabilities for the "administrator" role and this is what I found. All of the SPF-related capabilities were denied.
3. I granted all those permissions and then clicked on the Forum menu item again and got the expected results:
When I installed the forum software, the installation proceeded successfully and did not report any errors. I don't know if I accidentally omitted any steps that caused the above but it works now. I'm just posting this info in case someone else runs into this problem.
I created a platinum membership for another organization a month or so ago and installed simple forums successfully. I found a bit of a learning curve in the installation but once I understood how it worked, it was fine and easy enough. I like it and will continue to recommend it.
Thanks again for the quick replies and the very helpful answers! 🙂
Thanks - and glad you got it up and running.
For the record, a WP Administrator is NOT the same as an SP Admin. An SP Admin can be in any WP role and can be granted rights by any other SP Admin. When installed, the user making the installation should be granted full SP Admin capabilities. If this did not happen in this case I am unsure why that would be as it is not something we get reports of happening.

Yeah -- it didn't happen when I installed SP the last time.
My suspicion is that it is somehow related to the conflict that existed with The Events Calendar. But no way of knowing for sure without setting up a test site and testing that.
Anyway, it's working and I appreciate the guidance very much. 🙂
