Currently links on Facebook show up with the forum name and description.

1) How do I get the TOPIC name and possibly GROUP name into this link?  Plenty of space under the forum name.

2) I suppose the square space on the left is for an image, where does that come from?

I've been looking at the SEO option, isn't that the settings?

Can't figure it out and am desperately trying to get people off Facebook.  Obviously MORE INFO in the link would get more people to click.

how are you getting simple press data over to FB?  if you are pasting a link, you have control...  are you using share this (our plugin)? or other?

I've been posting links.   Usually a quick comment and then the link for more info.

I assume the sharing plugins are used to get a forum post to Facebook, right?

sorry, not really following... if you are posting links in facebook, you can control what the link is and what it links to...

sharing plugins?  sorry, what are you referring to?  We have only one - the Share This plugin... is that what you mean by the plural sharing plugins??

any sharing plugins you have for WordPress itself will not work with the forum since they dont understand the dynamic page content of the forum...  and would not give the right links...

How?  How would FB know how what to put in my link description?

And you asked me whether I was using a sharing plugin.  The answer should have simple been:

NO.

not trying to be difficult here, but if you are not using a sharing plugin and post links directly into facebook, how would we possibly be able to interact and add more information??

the whole point of the ShareThis plugin for simple press is to share forum activity with facebook and other social media sites...  the Sharethis plugin lets you and your users share posts/topics in social media with some relevant information...

I don't want to share the posts from the forum to a NEW post on Facebook. I might later, but not now.

Here is how it works. Somebody posts something on FB, I respond with a comment, type a few words, then post the forum link with more info on the subject.

When I post a link from THIS forum on Facebook, it does NOT expand and simply displays the URL -- no picture, no box, nothing.

When I post links to OTHER sites on FB, a nice little box appears as in my first post, usually there's a picture and there's relevant info.

I THOUGHT that it has to do with SEO, but could be totally wrong.

Ok, I tried my OTHER forum and it works:

This is exactly what I want.   Unfortunately, I have NO recollection how I did that, although I'm starting to remember struggling for a long time too.

It's been a few years ...

Odd, there is NO box on the left side and it would be nice to have a logo there.

I tried again a link to this topic here and now it works perfectly, may not have expanded earlier due to lag at FB.

It also displays exactly as it should with the topic name and breadcrumbs.

And apparently FB automatically displays the image from the post.  Since my posts didn't have pics, I got no box for it at my food forum, but at High Desert Dirt I got an empty box. Strange.

So now I just need to know how which settings to adjust to get the topic name and breadcrumbs on FB, it's certainly doable.

Not sure if this is still a question for us...

If you don't know how you accomplished the proper links on your site here, I'm sure I'll figure it out somehow.

Maybe someone else?
