Heya,
I seem like a constant pest with all my questions 🙂
Our Gravatars (which are set as the top option for avatars), don't seem to be working. I've double and triple checked the settings, but can't find anything that could be causing this.
Gravatars work fine on rest of the site and for author profiles, just not on forums! Would love any insight you have!
No known issues. Never have been if I recall correctly.
The only thing they rely on is your email address so can I assume that that is correctly set in the WP profile? Probably is if you are seeing them elsewhere.
If you are using our gravatar cache plugin then do make sure the necessary folder exists (check in form admin > Integration > Storage locations).
And what is your avatar priority list set to?

it doesn't seem to happen often but every now and then we come across a server set to not allow us to set the permissions properly. I take it you are with godaddy? As I think we have encountered the odd issue with them in the past.
In a few weeks we will also be releasing an update to the gravatar cache plugin that gives an extra performance boost. I am quite pleased with that...

Well the permissions in question relates to the folder on the server that stores gravatars if our Gravatar Cache plugin is installed. If they worked for you before then it is doubtful the permissions would have changed.
So let's check off the other items first. What are your avatar priorities set to? have they been corrupted or accidentally changed?

Hi Yellow Swordfish,
Thanks for responding. Our avatar priorities are set to:
1) Gravatars
2) Uploaded Avatars
3) SP Default Avatars
4) WP Avatars
We're not 100% sure when this first became an issue, but we do believe it was as recently as the update to 5.7.1 (we've been using SP for about 5 years at this point).
Also, we just purchased and installed the Gravatar-Cache plugin, thinking it was necessary. While this doesn't solve the issue, we do realize it's recommended.
Any additional help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Please let us know if there's anything else you need to know from us.
Thanks again!
Thanks for getting back to us.
I just confirmed with my boss that no, he never bought nor installed the cache plugin, so the answer is no, they do not work with the plugin deactivated, or not present. They did previously though.
Also, our server is an Apache server.
Any additional help is greatly appreciated.
No, gravatar cache plugin is not needed, but will improve performance on your site...
stepping back, what do you mean by gravatars dont show??? do you mean that the next avatar priority is shown (uploaded)?? or no avatar?
if no avatar, can you give us a link to an example?
